Stupid people of the day

Need a debit card? The twitter account @NeedADebitCard collects pictures of debit cards posted in public - only some of them blurred - and tweets them.

Sorry, ATM skimmers, you're officially redundant.

Why would anyone do this of the day

The “world’s scariest toilet paper,” which will sell overseas, features a horror story written by Koji Suzuki. (Takashi Fukuyama)

Because abject terror is the one thing missing from my bathroom visits.

Three years ago, Hayashi Paper has released three volumes of "the World's scariest toilet paper", each containing a story (appropriately called "Drop") written by Koji Suzuki, who was responsible for Japanese horror icons "The Ring" and "Spiral".

The company now plans to make the product available internationally.

Unsurprising thing comes as surprise to Len Brown

Len Brown's night with drunken revellers (Source: ONE News)

Auckland Mayor Len Brown says that he is "surprised" at the drunken behaviour of people on CBD streets in the early hours of the morning.

Brown, who spent a few hours in and amongst revelers early on Sunday morning said that he wanted Auckland's streets to be "welcoming" but that that certainly wasn't the impression that he got during his tour.

Auckland Council is joining with the Police to closely monitor the CBD and suggest some changes, including earlier closing hours, better queue management for bars, and instant fines for breaching liquor bans.

Life imitating art of the day

The town of Middlesborough, Massachusetts has approved a proposal to fine people for public profanity.

Officials claim that the city ordinance doesn't cover private conversations but rather swearing loudly in public.

Concerns have been raised by civil libertarians who argue that the government cannot prohibit free speech, whether it contains profanity or not. The town has had a bylaw against public profanity since the late 1960's, but due to the logistics involved it has never been enforced.

Next up, three seashell toilets.
