Auckland Mayor Len Brown says that he is "surprised" at the drunken behaviour of people on CBD streets in the early hours of the morning.

Brown, who spent a few hours in and amongst revelers early on Sunday morning said that he wanted Auckland's streets to be "welcoming" but that that certainly wasn't the impression that he got during his tour.

Auckland Council is joining with the Police to closely monitor the CBD and suggest some changes, including earlier closing hours, better queue management for bars, and instant fines for breaching liquor bans.
