Discovery of the day




Divers waiting to decompress during a dive in the Pearse Reserve near Nelson have discovered three new freshwater species living in the depths - a crustacean, a snail and a worm.

Tonguefish picture: a new deep-sea species found during a recent expedition

National Geographic has released a series of pictures of deep sea creatures found in undersea volcanoes and canyons, such as this tonguefish at the Tangaroa Seamount.
